Troubleshooting Tips for better WiFi Connection

So your internet connection went out and the entire family is panicking! No need to panic. Fixing it is much easier than you think.

We all rely on high internet speeds and reliable WiFi, and when we have low speeds it can be extremely frustrating. There are reasons these issues happen, and we are going to talk about what causes them and how to throubleshoot them fast!

Have you ever checked your internet speed? Find out how well your WiFi connection is by simply Clicking on this link. If you are dealing with slow internet connection, we have a few troubleshooting tips that might help!

Slow Connection

Moving your router to a central area in your home can help with slower connection speeds. If your router is in a corner of the house, try moving it to the middle of your home for a better signal.

If you have a two-story home, try moving the router’s antenna to point in different directions to reach the upstairs and downstairs. Keep your router high on a shelf and away from other devices that might interfere with the radio wave signal.

If you live close to neighbours in a condo or apartment building, try seeing how congested the router’s channel is. There is free software available such as WiFi Analyzer that checks the status of nearby channels. By changing to a less used channel, your WiFi signals will work better.

No Connection

If you have too many devices trying to use the signal, it may be too much for one router to handle. To get a better connection, try putting another router on the other side of your home or purchasing a wireless range extender to help the signal strength.

If all devices are having trouble connecting to the WiFi, try plugging one directly into the router via Ethernet cable. If you are able to connect to the internet, you know WiFi is the issue. You will want to reset the router and start over. There is usually a “Reset” button you can hold to get back to default settings. Then use your router guide to help reset up the system.

If you have tried troubleshooting and your internet connectivity is still slow or not connecting to WiFi at all, it may be time for a new router. Although not ideal, purchasing a new router will most likely fix your internet connection problems. There are many great routers out there from Amazon that can be shipped to you in one day!
